Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsStabilization of Tyrosinase-Bovine Serum Albumin Crystals by GlutaraldehydeD. Norouzian, A. Akbarzadeh, M.H. Abnosi et al.Tyrosinase and bovine serum albumin were co-crystallized by saturated ammonium sulfate solution(65%) and 20% polyethylene glycol ( PEG) 6000 and n-propanol as co-solvents .The obtained crystals were cross linked by glutaraldehyde solution(1% v/v).Polyethylene glycol 6000 was found to be better co-solvent than n-propanol. The developed biocatalyst could be recycled 6 times without further loss of tyrosinase activity. No loss of … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 3, Issue 3 · 30 Sep 2007 · 7,194 accessesView PDFCite
Research NotesOpen accessIn the keywordsPolymerisation and Oxidation of Docosahexaenoic AcidBrian Mundell Ross, Shelly Lynn Browning, Adrian McKeeOils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as linseed oil, can oxidise to form polymers. These can be used as protective coatings and act as an alternative to those derived from petrochemicals. Such renewable source oils usually require the addition of metal ions as catalysts of the polymerisation process and/or the partial pre-oxidation of the oil before use. We hypothesised … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 12, Issue 1 · 11 Dec 2015 · 7,612 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractChemical Profile of Sotol Analyzed by Solid Phase Microextraction-Gas ChromatographyHeliodoro de la Garza, Juan Buenrostro, María Reyes-Vega et al.Problem statement: Sotol is a distilled spirit made from Dasylirion spp., a plant (called sotol) that grows in the wilds of Northern Mexico and west Texas and New Mexico. This alcoholic beverage is produced in a similar process to the more common artisanal tequila and mescal. Sotol is also now beginning to achieve international recognition; however there are few commercial … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 3 · 30 Sep 2010 · 8,334 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPhysiochemical Properties of Sago Starch Modified by Acid Treatment in AlcoholP.H. Yiu, S.L. Loh, A. Rajan et al.Sago starch is usually chemically modified to overcome and improve the unstable properties of native sago starch during processing. In this study, sago starch was treated in hydrochloric acid in the presence of methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol at 450C for 1 hour. Granule size, granular structure and solubility of the modified starch were investigated. Results showed that recovery yields of … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2008 · 8,909 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractThe Effect of Physical Refining on Palm Vitamin E (Tocopherol, Tocotrienol and Tocomonoenol)Chiew Wei Puah, Yuen May Choo, Ah Ngan Ma, Cheng Hock ChuahThis study reports the effect of physical refining on palm vitamin E including α- tocopherol, α-, γ and α-tocotrienols as well as α- tocomonoenol. A method using HPLC with fluorescence detector using normal phase silica column is described. An isocratic elution with n-hexane/THF/2-propanol (1000:60:4, by vol.) as mobile phase was used. The structure of the α- tocomonoenol was determined using … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 4, Issue 6 · 30 Jun 2007 · 8,362 accessesView PDFCite
