Crossmark policy

How we tell readers that an article has changed: corrections, expressions of concern and retractions, and the Crossmark button.

In short

  • Every update is a notice with its own DOI, linked to the article.
  • A retracted article stays online, clearly marked.
  • Crossmark shows whether the copy you read is current.

Science Publications is committed to maintaining the content it publishes and to telling readers when that content changes. Clicking the Crossmark button on an article, or in its PDF, shows whether the version you are reading is current and links to any update.

What we update

We publish a correction, an expression of concern or a retraction on the grounds set out in our publication ethics policy, following the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics.

How updates appear

Every correction, expression of concern and retraction is published as a notice with its own DOI and is linked to the article it updates. The article page carries a banner that links to the notice. A retracted article stays online, marked as retracted on its page and in its PDF, so the scholarly record remains complete.

What the Crossmark button covers

The Crossmark button appears on articles published by Science Publications. Its status refers to the version of record on this site; other copies, such as those in repositories, may not show later updates.

Questions

Readers who believe an article needs a correction or a retraction can write to the ethics team at [email protected], quoting the article’s DOI.
