Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsLand use Type Pattern and Woody Species Composition Near Human Disturbed Landscapes on Mount Makiling, Luzon IslandInocencio E. Buot, Katsuhiro OsumiProblem statement: A field study near human disturbed landscape on Mount Makiling, Luzon Island, Philippines was done on the eastern slopes of the legendary mountain to determine the land use patterns and woody species composition. Approach: Forty permanent plots of 10×10m in 3 belt transects spaced at 200m apart were established from the undisturbed forests to the agricultural farms. Classification … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 26 Aug 2011 · 8,033 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractClimate-Driven Productivity Responses and Implications for Genetic Adaptation and Breeding of Boreal Trees in KazakhstanZhadyra Baigazakova, Kuralay Mazarzhanova, Asset Satayev et al.Kazakhstan’s boreal and forest-steppe forests form the southern ecotonal edge of the West Siberian taiga, where relatively small changes in heat and moisture can trigger disproportionate impacts on tree growth, mortality, and regeneration. Although forests cover only ~4% of Kazakhstan, they provide critical ecosystem services: stabilizing hydrological regimes, buffering microclimates, protecting agricultural lands from wind and water erosion, and supporting … …OnLine Journal of Biological Sciences, Vol. 26, Issue 3 · 10 Aug 2026 · 709 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractLand Cover Changes from Forest Fires Using CA-Markov in Pelalawan, IndonesiaApri Zulmi Hardi, Abdulkader Ali MuradForest and land fires pose significant risks to ecosystems, particularly in Pelalawan Regency, Indonesia, where slash-and-burn practices during the dry season exacerbate peatland degradation. This study integrates Cellular Automata (CA) and Markov-chain analysis to model and predict land cover changes and carbon stock dynamics over the next 20 years. The model projects spatial patterns of land cover changes from 2002-2033 … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 21, Issue 2 · 31 Dec 2024 · 4,874 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractUSING LIGHT TO SEE NEUTRONS AND ACCESSING THE 2D HIGH RESOLUTION: BAROTRON: A NEW PULSE FOR NEUTRON SCATTERINGPatrick Baroni, Laurence NoirezSince first years of exploitation in 1960-70, neutron scattering has emerged as a unique and non-destructive means to probing inside matter properties at the nanometer length scales. Because the neutron production is scarce and expensive, the detection has to be extremely efficient. We take advantage of the recent improvements of light sensors in photon detection and detection dynamics, to develop … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 9 · 26 Jul 2014 · 7,077 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractCHEMICAL EQUILIBRIUM OF SOIL SOLUTION IN STEPPE ZONE SOILA. A. Batukaev, A. P. Endovitsky, T. M. Minkina et al.Dynamics of material composition, migration and accumulation of salts is determined by chemical equilibrium in soil solution. Soil solution contains associated electrically neutral ion pairs CaCO30; CaSO40, MgCO30, MgSO40, charged ion pairs CaHCO3+, MgHCO3+, NaCO3-, NaSO4-, CaOH+, MgOH+. Calculation method is proposed for quantitative assessment of real ion forms in the soil solution of chestnut solonetz soil complex. Were proposed … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 9, Issue 3 · 24 Jun 2014 · 8,224 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractGroundwater Dynamics and Quality Assessment in an Agricultural AreaStefano Lo Russo, Adriano Fiorucci, Bartolomeo VignaProblem statement: The analysis of the relationships among the different hydrogeological Units and the assessment of groundwater quality are fundamental to adopt suitable territorial planning measures aimed to reduce the potential groundwater pollution especially in agricultural regions. In this study, the characteristics of groundwater dynamics and the assessment of its quality in the Cuneo Plain (NW Italy) were examined. Approach: … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 29 Sep 2011 · 7,367 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordVegetation Dynamics Depending on Ecological Particularities of Bozanta Mare (Maramures County-Romania) Tailing Pound: Case StudyMonica Marian, Leonard Mihaly Cozmuta, Camelia Varga et al.The present study followed an ecological demarche of reintegration in the scenary through revegetation of an anthropic ground, consisting in a waste pond formed from the flotation activity of non-ferrous ores. Problem statement: To support the formation of a compact vegetal layer, having anti-erosion and a restoration role, a preliminary study was required regarding the spontaneous settlement of different vegetal … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 28 Feb 2009 · 7,361 accessesView PDFCite
