Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsConversion of a Conventional Vehicle into a Battery-Super Capacitor Hybrid VehicleAnuradha Herath, Pasan Gunawardena, Vimukthi Randeny et al.The use of a super capacitor pack parallel with a battery pack in electric vehicles can have effects on the battery life as well as on the driving range of the vehicle. In this research a conventional IC engine vehicle was converted into a motor driven electric vehicle. The converted vehicle was tested on a drive cycle defined to match … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 3 · 11 Oct 2018 · 7,705 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractProsthetic Knee Mechanism Using a Double Locking System as a Safety MeasureEicarl Saynes Vazquez, Esther Lugo GonzálezThe design of a four-link knee prosthesis mechanism with two locking systems activated during the flexion/extension phase is presented. The first is geometric, totally mechanical and activated by the user's weight. The second is variable and is activated automatically when walking on irregular or special surfaces is required. The links' dimensions were selected using the differential evolutionary optimization algorithm to … …Journal of Mechatronics and Robotics, Vol. 8, Issue 1 · 12 Feb 2024 · 5,701 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractExploring the Relationship Between Skin Barrier Function, Sensitivity, and Repair MechanismsXiaoqing Yan, Yusong Shi, Jiguang YangFor healthy skin, the skin's barrier function must remain maintained. Many different molecular while immunological signaling mechanisms are involved in skin barrier control. The control of a healthy skin barrier, particularly acid mantle maintenance and proper amounts of ceramides, may help dermatologists develop remedies for skin barrier disruption disorders. In contrast, new medicines could focus on signaling pathways to offer … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 21, Issue 4 · 15 Feb 2026 · 1,893 accessesView PDFCite
EditorialOpen accessIn the abstractThe Timeless Contribution of Rootstocks towards Successful Horticultural Farming: From Ancient Times to the Climate Change EraIoannis E. PapadakisGrafting is a horticultural practice by which living vegetative plant organs (root, stem and/or buds) of either the same genotype or, usually, different genotypes belonging to the same species, genus, subfamily and/or family, are tightly connected to each other to form a double-compound plant. In fact, it is a method of asexual (clonal-vegetative) propagation of plants. The basal part of … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 4 · 16 Dec 2016 · 9,521 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractElectrical Properties of Cobalt Oxide/Silica Nanocomposites Obtained by Sol-Gel TechniqueGomaa A.M. Ali, Osama A. Fouad, Salah A. MakhloufThis work is an extension of our previous studies on cobalt oxide nanoparticles impeded in a silica matrix. Here we study the preparation and characterization of high cobalt content materials (60-90 wt%). In addition, the DC electrical conductivity of the prepared materials in a wide temperature range (350-673 K) was measured and discussed. The activation energy has been obtained according … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 9, Issue 1 · 18 Nov 2015 · 8,678 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractLONG-REACH OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS (LR-OANS): A PROMISING CANDIDATE FOR FUTURE OPTICAL ACCESSI.M.M. Mohamed, M.S. Ab-RahmanThe ever-increasing demand for broader bandwidth per user, which results from the continuous development of new bandwidth-hungry services and applications, creates the motivation to upgrade the currently deployed Time-Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Networks (TDM-PONs) to Next-Generation Optical Access Networks (NG-OANs). Beside the need for more bandwidth per user, a further extension in the range and an increase in the split … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 9 · 15 Aug 2014 · 6,704 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Scale to Measure SuperstitionMd. Mahfuzul Huque, Ataharul Huq ChowdhuryThe purpose of the study was to construct a scale to measure superstition in a rural setting. A total of 31 statements or items expressing superstition were collected through reviewing relevant literature, consultation with extension experts, social scientists, progressive farmers and local leaders Statements were carefully examined and edited as per the criteria of Edwards[1]. The statements were employed to … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 3, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2007 · 8,410 accessesView PDFCite

Among them, waste management extension is highly significant because of the millions of tons of annual waste in vegetal, animal, environmental and natural resources products as well as millions of hectors … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2006 · 7,402 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractNew Families of Distributions for Modeling Bivariate Data, with ApplicationsHaroon Barakat, Osama Mohareb Khaled, Nourhan KhalilIn this study we introduce a new method of adding two shape parameters to any baseline bivariate distribution function (df) to get a more flexible family of bivariate df's. Through the additional parameters we can fully control the type of the resulting family. This method is applied to yield a new two-parameter extension of the bivariate standard normal distribution, denoted … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 14, Issue 1 · 3 Apr 2018 · 7,914 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAnalysis and Synthesis of Mechanisms with Bars and Gears Used in Robots and ManipulatorsRelly Victoria Virgil Petrescu, Raffaella Aversa, Antonio Apicella et al.Bars and gears are used everywhere today, but a wide range of uses is robotics and mechatronics. Since ancient times, automations and mechanization have been used with mechanisms consisting of chains of bars and gears. These were obviously used for the purpose of transmitting the movement and its transformation, that is to say, as a mechanical transmission. Gear and bar … …Journal of Mechatronics and Robotics, Vol. 1, Issue 2 · 20 Dec 2017 · 7,052 accessesView PDFCite
