Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titleHuffman Based Code Generation Algorithms: Data Compression PerspectivesAhsan Habib, M. Jahirul Islam, M. Shahidur RahmanThis article proposes two dynamic Huffman based code generation algorithms, namely Octanary and Hexanary algorithm, for data compression. Faster encoding and decoding process is very important in data compression area. We propose tribit-based (Octanary) and quadbit-based (Hexanary) algorithm and compare the performance with the existing widely used single bit (Binary) and recently introduced dibit (Quaternary) algorithms. The decoding algorithms for … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 14, Issue 12 · 9 Dec 2018 · 7,706 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titleDesign of Modified Adaptive Huffman Data Compression Algorithm for Wireless Sensor NetworkC. Tharini, P. Vanaja RanjanProblem statement: Efficient utilization of energy has been a core area of research in wireless sensor networks. Sensor nodes deployed in a network are battery operated. As batteries cannot be recharged frequently in the field setting, energy optimization becomes paramount in prolonging the battery-life and, consequently, the network lifetime. The communication module utilizes a major part of the energy expenditure … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 6 · 30 Jun 2009 · 8,353 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titleEfficient Data Compression Scheme using Dynamic Huffman Code Applied on Arabic LanguageSameh Ghwanmeh, Riyad Al-Shalabi, Ghassan KanaanThe development of an efficient compression scheme to process the Arabic language represents a difficult task. This paper employs the dynamic Huffman coding on data compression with variable length bit coding, on the Arabic language. Experimental tests have been performed on both Arabic and English text. A comparison is made to measure the efficiency of compressing data results on both … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 2, Issue 12 · 31 Dec 2006 · 7,244 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titleA Single Core Hardware Module of a Data Compression Scheme Using Prediction by Partial Matching TechniqueJubayer Jalil, Md. Mamun, Mohd. Marufuzzaman, Hafizah HusainProblem statement: Compression is useful because it helps reduce the consumption of expensive resources, such as hard disk space or transmission bandwidth. For effective data compression, the compression algorithm must be able to predict future data accurately in order to build a good probabilistic model for compression. Lossless compression is essential in cases where it is important that the original … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 11 · 7 Oct 2011 · 7,258 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titleBinary Merge Coding for Lossless Image Data CompressionN. Subhash Chandra, M. Bala Raju, M. Arya bahanu et al.Problem statement: Image processing applications were drastically increasing over the years. In such a scenario, the fact that, the digital images need huge amounts of disk space seems to be a crippling disadvantage during transmission and storage. So, there arises a need for data compression of images. Approach: This study proposed a novel technique called binary merge coding for lossless … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 5 · 30 May 2009 · 6,864 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titlePERFORMANCE COMPARISON OF HUFFMAN AND LEMPEL-ZIV WELCH DATA COMPRESSION FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NODE APPLICATIONAsral Bahari Jambek, Nor Alina KhairiWireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are becoming important in today’s technology in helping monitoring our surrounding environment. However, wireless sensor nodes are powered by limited energy supply. To extend the lifetime of the device, energy consumption must be reduced. Data transmission is known to consume the largest amount of energy in a sensor node. Thus, one method to reduce the energy … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 1 · 10 Dec 2013 · 7,949 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessEvery word in the titleA Survey on Joint Compression and Encryption Techniques for Video DataK. John Singh, R. ManimegalaiProblem statement: When we send any video data over the network it consumes more time. This is due to the huge size of the video file when compared to text file. Therefore, video data should be compressed before sending to the destination. Another important factor during data transfer is security. Joint compression and encryption is employed to enable faster and … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 8, Issue 5 · 28 Feb 2012 · 7,348 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsQuaternary Tree Structure as a Novel Method for Huffman Coding TreeAhsan Habib, Mohammed Jahirul Islam, Mohammad Shahidur RahmanThe binary code used by the current Huffman-based techniques slows down decoding speed. The quaternary Huffman coding method is a fresh take on the traditional Huffman coding that is suggested in this study. Each symbol is encoded into a quaternary code rather than a binary code using the quaternary Huffman coding technique. For Huffman coding, a quaternary code stream necessitates … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 19, Issue 9 · 24 Aug 2023 · 5,425 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsAlgorithm for Compressing/Decompressing Sudoku GridsZhivko Nedev, Murtala Adamu Zungeru, Suykhun Khov et al.We describe a way to transfer efficiently Sudoku grids through the Internet. This is done by using linearization together with compression and decompression that use the information structure present in all sudoku grids. The compression and the corresponding decompression are based on the fact that in each Sudoku grid there are information dependencies and so some of the information is … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 16, Issue 9 · 3 Oct 2020 · 6,879 accessesView PDFCite
