Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractOptimization of Ultrasonic/Microwave Assisted Extraction (UMAE) and Rheological Properties of Polysaccharides from Auricularia polytrichaZe Zhang, Xiao Ding, Ziyi Xu et al.Polysaccharides from Auricularia polytricha (APPS) were extracted using Ultrasonic/Microwave Assisted Extraction (UMAE) technology. UMAE conditions of APPS were optimized with Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Rheological properties of APPS were investigated. The results suggested that the optimal UMAE conditions for APPS were ratio of water to raw material 22 (mL/g), extraction time 15.3 min and microwave power 59W. APPS solution exhibited … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 16, Issue 1 · 14 Mar 2020 · 7,420 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractNumerical Study of Natural Convection in a Square Porous Cavity Thermally Modulated on Both Side WallsGiovani E.B. Malomar, Abdoulaye Gueye, Cheikh Mbow et al.The numerical study of natural convection in a square porous cavity saturated by a Newtonian fluid is presented in this study. The vertical walls are subjected to temperatures varying sinusoidally in time and phase opposition while the upper and lower horizontal walls are thermally adiabatic. Darcy model is used, it is also assumed the fluid studied is incompressible and obeys … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 9, Issue 3 · 13 Aug 2016 · 7,912 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractCRITERIA FOR THE COMPLEXITY OF SUCCESSIVE ASTRONOMICAL PARADIGMSPanagiotis Papaspirou, Kostas Karamanos, Xenophon MoussasWe investigate the complexity of three successive astronomical paradigms in the science of Physics, namely the Ptolemaic paradigm, the Copernican paradigm and the Keplerian paradigm and mention briefly some characteristic facts about the colossal Newtonian paradigm. This complexity can be understood according to five criteria, as proposed by Thomas Kuhn, the father of the epistemological notion of the paradigm, as … …Physics International, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 28 Mar 2014 · 8,295 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractREVIEW OF GRAVITATIONAL WAVE DETECTIONS: DYNAMICAL SPACEReginald Thomas CahillThis is a review of the numerous successful gravitational wave detections and the implications for the nature of space and time. The prevailing space time paradigm in physics was founded on the putative "null" results of the Michelson-Morley (MM) 1887 interferometer experiment to detect light speed anisotropy and which resulted in two different new relativity theories: Lorentz relativity (Lorentz, 1904) … …Physics International, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 27 Mar 2014 · 8,007 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractESTIMATIONS OF TOTAL MASS AND ENERGY OF THE OBSERVABLE UNIVERSEDimitar ValevThe recent astronomical observations indicate that the expanding universe is homogeneous, isotropic and asymptotically flat. The Euclidean geometry of the universe enables to determine the total gravitational and kinetic energy of the universe by Newtonian gravity in a flat space. By means of dimensional analysis, we have found the mass of the observable universe close to the Hoyle-Carvalho formula M∼c3/(GH). … …Physics International, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 21 Mar 2014 · 17,696 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractThe Gravity Field of a CubeJames Michael Chappell, Mark John Chappell, Azhar Iqbal, Derek AbbottWe calculate the Newtonian gravitational potential and field of a cubic, homogeneous asteroid and we apply it to the orbit of possible satellites. Large astronomical objects such as stars or planets, naturally tend to form spherical shapes due to the dominance of the gravitational forces, but as a thought experiment, we consider the properties of a planet in the form … …Physics International, Vol. 3, Issue 2 · 27 Mar 2013 · 15,328 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractRheological Characterization of Sludge Coming from a Wastewater Treatment PlantDaniel Novarino, Ezio Santagata, Davide Dalmazzo, Mariachiara ZanettiProblem statement: The aim of this study was that of studying the rheology of sewage sludge using two different rheological test protocols taken from literature and comparing them in order to evaluate which useful information are given from every protocol. Approach: Two different protocols have been used taking particularly into account the problems connected to sludge heterogeneous composition and to … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 6, Issue 4 · 31 Aug 2010 · 7,365 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractThe Effect of Buoyancy Force in Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of a Two-Dimensional Continuous Ohmic Heating ProcessElzubier A. Salih, Thomas S.Y. Choong, S. Y. Sergie et al.Problem statement: Earlier work on ohmic heating technique focused on viscous food and foods containing solid particles. In this study, the use of ohmic heating on sterilization of guava juice is carried out. Computational fluid dynamics is used to model and simulate the system. Approach: Investigate the buoyancy effect on the CFD simulation of continuous ohmic heating systems of fluid … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 6, Issue 11 · 30 Nov 2009 · 7,833 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractEffect of Stent Geometry on Phase Shift between Pressure and Flow Waveforms in Stented Human Coronary ArteryVahab Dehlaghi, Siamak Najarian, Mohammad Tafazzoli ShadpourShear stress is known to play a central role in restenosis formation and is sensitive to stent geometry. Alterations of the phase shift between pressure and flow waveform created by a different stents were studied to compare the hemodynamic effects of stent design properties on restenosis in stented human coronary artery. Blood pressure waveforms were computed in three different sites, … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2008 · 7,252 accessesView PDFCite
