Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesRadial Basis Function Neural Networks Towards Electronic Trust QuantificationSmitha Zacaria, Tiny du ToitTrust is a broad term applicable in various contexts. Trust between electronic entities is complex to quantify, particularly in intricate networks. Traditional trust algorithms rely on historical trust values, requiring storage and access to past transaction details. Contextual variations further complicate trust calculation. Challenges in calculating trust include heightened computational complexities, managing information storage, and securing access to extensive datasets … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 20, Issue 11 · 26 Sep 2024 · 4,791 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesAutomated Terrain Classification with a Bayesian Hyperparameter Optimized Deep Supervised Autoencoder ModelTiny Du Toit, Hennie Kruger, Annette Van Der MerweTerrain classification according to specific terrain attributes, has become increasingly important in certain decision-making scenarios. Automated robots are often utilized to traverse a specific surface to collect data that can be used in classification models to identify a specific terrain. In this study, a supervised autoencoder model (i.e., an autoencoder combined with a supervised learner such as a multilayer perceptron) … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 19, Issue 9 · 31 Aug 2023 · 5,019 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesA Framework for Computerized Progress Feedback in Tertiary EducationAnnette van der Merwe, Tiny du Toit, Hennie KrugerThe dawn of democracy in South Africa in 1994 has resulted in challenges in many fields, especially in education. University enrolment rates are high and the output quality of school learners in general is delicate which threatens the graduate quality of tertiary institutions. Contrary to rising student enrolments, the attrition rates have not improved. One contributing factor is the lack … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 16, Issue 3 · 28 Mar 2020 · 6,943 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesA Prescriptive Specialized Learning Management System for Academic Feedback towards Improved LearningAnnette van der Merwe, Tiny du Toit, Hennie KrugerThe dynamic nature of technological advances is causing changes in many fields and especially in tertiary education. Student numbers are increasing annually and institutions need to maintain education quality whilst ensuring student retention. A specialized learning management system (SLMS) was developed in this study that provides students with comprehensive feedback which will enable them to better manage their academic performance. … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 14, Issue 10 · 24 Oct 2018 · 7,480 accessesView PDF Cite
