About this special issue

This Special Issue aims at collecting reviews and recent papers on the latest developments of new nanomaterials and their use in gas sensors.

Metal oxide semiconductors gas sensors have attracted considerable attention in many technological fields. The most investigated group of gas sensors are the semiconductor metal oxide. They have attracted much attention in the field of gas sensing under atmosphere conditions due to their low cost, excellent sensitivity, good accuracy, low response time, good stability, durability, suitability, simplicity of their use, and large number of detectable gases. The incorporation of certain dopants can affect the sensor gas performance improving the selectivity. A new generation of different nanostructures such as nanotubes, nanorods, nanowires, nanowiskers has been produced recently. Metal oxide semiconductors have been use for detecting and monitoring flammable, toxic and exhaust gases in industrial environments. One of the main features of these nanostructures is the relationship surface/volume that makes them attractive for the use in gas sensors, which possibly is a requisite for gas sensing at room temperature. The cheap, reliable, small and low power-consuming gas sensors are in great demand due to the wide range of applications.
