Research ArticleOpen accessEvery word in the titleIntegration of Human Factor in Design Ergonomics: Example of a High Speed Train Cabin DesignHajar El M’hadi, A. CherkaouiThe development of new technologies and technical progress has accelerated man/machine substitution. Work is disappearing in its human form. This technical progress has not avoided certain catastrophes occurring. These major disasters, both for man and for the environment, took place where reliability was at its highest level. The responsibility of the operator, of the human, the weak point in these … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 10, Issue 1 · 30 Mar 2017 · 7,888 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessEvery word in the titleDevelopment of Ergonomics Guidelines for Improved Sitting Postures in the Classroom among Malaysian University StudentsPoh Kiat Ng, Kian Siong Jee, Sin Yee LimPLIBEL stands for Plan for Identifiering av Belastnings faktorer, which is a Sweedish acronym describing a method for identification of ergonomics hazards. Using a modified PLIBEL checklist, this study aimed to identify the relationships among musculoskeletal risk factors and the classroom sitting conditions among Malaysian university students. A survey questionnaire was developed based on the modified PLIBEL checklist. A total … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 13, Issue 8 · 31 Aug 2016 · 9,937 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessEvery word in the titleErgonomics Issues in MalaysiaH. S. Loo, Stanley RichardsonProblem statement: Ergonomics so far has had little impact in Malaysia. For most Malaysian managers, ergonomics is not considered to be associated with performance, but rather with occupational health and safety and legislation. Approach: This study reviews the development of ergonomics in Malaysia and the underlying issues related to national development. Results: Many changes need to be made within the … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 1 · 23 Jan 2012 · 9,506 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessEvery word in the titleAn Ergonomics Study on Assembly Line Workstation DesignBaba Md Deros, Nor Kamaliana Khamis, Ahmad Rasdan Ismail et al.Problem statement: High demand for products in the manufacturing industry had driven the human workers to work faster and adapt to their un-ergonomically designed workstation. Some tasks at assembly workstations require human workers to stand for a prolonged period of time to assemble the products. Approach: This study was conducted at an automotive component manufacturer. Twenty full time workers working … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 11 · 8 Oct 2011 · 9,992 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsUsability Validation of an Ergonomic Inward Directional Screwdriver for Enhanced Musculoskeletal ComfortPoh Kiat Ng, Bing Sheng Choong, Kian Siong JeePrevious studies suggested that the use of inward torque direction in hand-related manual activities not only increases the total normal force and torque capacity but also reduces grip force. This means lesser effort is required to perform the task, which prevents overexertion and hand injuries. Manual screwdrivers are the most common hand tools used in the industry and daily life. … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 13, Issue 11 · 27 Oct 2016 · 7,446 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsEFFECTIVENESS OF A PARTICIPATORY ACTION ORIENTED TRAINING INTERVENTION APPROACH AMONG HARVESTERS IN OIL PALM PLANTATIONNg Yee Guan, Shamsul Bahri Mohd Tamrin, Ismi Arif Ismail et al.Consistent with the global demand for palm oil, the intensified upstream harvesting activities of oil palms’ fresh fruit bunches, despite the harvesters evidences of various ergonomics risk factors leading to musculoskeletal disorders should be a cause for concern. Thus, this study describes the effectiveness of a modified and locally adapted Participatory Action-Oriented Training intervention program in improving the working environment … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 4 · 8 Feb 2014 · 8,980 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsDesign and Development of an Ergonomic Milling Machine Control Knob using TRIZ PrinciplesPoh Kiat Ng, Kian Siong JeeTRIZ, a Russian abbreviation known as the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving, refers to a methodology for problem-solving rooted in logic and data rather than intuition. It promotes the ability to solve problems creatively. Using TRIZ tools for problem-solving such as the cause-effect-chain analysis and engineering contradiction, a new ergonomic milling machine control knob was developed for improved musculoskeletal comfort. … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 13, Issue 4 · 28 Apr 2016 · 7,787 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsProgrammable System on Chip Distributed Communication and Control Approach for Human Adaptive Mechanical SystemAhmad ‘Athif Mohd Faudzi, Koichi SuzumoriProblem statement: Communication and control are two main components in any Mechatronics system. They can be designed either by centralized or decentralized approach. Both approaches can be chosen based on application designed and specific requirements of the designer. In this study, decentralized or normally called distributed approach was selected to solved communication and control of a human adaptive mechanical system … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 8 · 31 Aug 2010 · 6,733 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractSocial-economic and Ecological Criteria of Noise ControlM. A. Al-NawaflehWhen designing new and/or modifying pre-existing equipment, the problem of economic feasibility is always of prime importance . However, the economic feasibility is often a matter of discussion in various social aspect. To operate no aesthetic, noisy, dusty, gazed heavy machine with large number of visually fixed moving parts and gearing, it is often dangerous and even risky.
