Research ArticleOpen accessPhrase in the titleComplexity in Human Perception of Brightness: A Historical Review on the Evolution of the Philosophy of Visual PerceptionKuntal Ghosh, Kamales BhaumikProblem statement: The “eye-brain” complex, which contributes maximally to visual perception, is no doubt a very interesting object for complexity study. In this review we shall try to present some of its aspects in perceiving brightness. It is a well-known fact that the perceived brightness of any surface depends on the brightness of the surfaces that surround it, a phenomenon … …OnLine Journal of Biological Sciences, Vol. 10, Issue 1 · 30 Jun 2010 · 8,680 accessesView PDFCite

Review ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractDenoising of Underwater Images with Regulated AutoencodersShreya Priyadarshini Roy, N Maheswari, M Sivagami, Angelin Beulah SIn the domain of underwater image processing, the images obtained in underwater lighting conditions are of very poor in quality and contain distortions due to the scattering of lights and color absorption of images in water. This makes it difficult to analyze these images for scientific, commercial and military purposes. Therefore, there is a need for efficient techniques that can … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 20, Issue 6 · 4 Apr 2024 · 5,571 accessesView PDFCite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAn Efficient Denoising Algorithm for Impulse Noise RemovalA. Rajamani, V. KrishnaveniNow-a-days the images acquired by the digital cameras and defective sensors tend to introduce noises during either image acquisition or transmission process. The quality of the image is degraded in a significant measure. Lot of research works was carried out for several decades to denoise the impulse noise and each approach has its own merits and demerits. This study deals … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 11, Issue 1 · 10 Sep 2014 · 6,814 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractSPECKLE REDUCTION IN ULTRASOUND IMAGES USING NEIGHSHRINK AND BILATERAL FILTERINGR. Vanithamani, G. UmamaheswariSpeckle is a random multiplicative noise which obscures the perception and extraction of fine details in ultrasound images and speckle reduction is necessary to improve the visual quality of ultrasound images for better diagnosis. This study aims at introducing an algorithm by hybridizing bilateral filter with NeighShrink. The bilateral filter is applied before decomposition and after reconstruction of the image … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 10, Issue 4 · 19 Dec 2013 · 6,911 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAN IMPROVEMENT OF STRUCTURAL SIMILARITY INDEX FOR IMAGE QUALITY ASSESSMENTEmna Chebbi, Faouzi Benzarti, Hamid AmiriThe image quality assessment has been widely used in image processing. Several researches have been developed and carried considering the Human Visual System (HVS). Under the hypothesis that human visual perception is extremely adapted to retrieve structural information from a scene, the SSIM index is the most widely used in this area, which leads to a better correlation with HVS. … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 10, Issue 2 · 21 Nov 2013 · 7,419 accessesView PDFCite
