Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractNavigating Two Worlds: New Identity Constructions as Determinants for Successful Integration of New Black Immigrant and Refugee Youth in Canadian SocietyMichael BaffoeProblem statement: The interest in immigrant children and children of immigrants has been growing recently. There is a gap in the literature on current knowledge on the integration and adaptation conditions of the new second generation of immigrants. For teenage youth growing up in diaspora settings, the issue of identity becomes paramount. Approach: They come to define themselves, as well … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 10 Aug 2011 · 8,238 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractImprovement of Image Matching by using the Proximity Criterion: Application to Omnidirectional and Perspective ImagesIbrahim Guelzim, Ahmed Hammouch, Driss AboutajdineProblem statement: In computer vision, matching is an important phase for several applications (object reconstruction, robot navigation ...). The similarity measures used provided results which could be improved. Approach: This research proposed to improve image matching by using the proximity criterion. The similarity measures used mutual information and correlation coefficient. The matching was done between neighborhoods of points of interest … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 8 · 15 Jul 2011 · 6,679 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Linear Model for Moving Measurements Estimation in Urban Climate StudiesClaudia Cotrim Pezzuto, Lucila Chebel Labaki, Lia Toledo Moreira Mota, Alexandre Alexandre de Assis MotaProblem statement: Several methods can be adopted to study the variations in urban climate. The mobile measurement method is one of them, involving information provided by moving measurements of air temperature, that are taken in points defined along pre-established routes and also data from fixed-point temperature recording stations. Because moving measurements are made in different times along the measurement process, … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 7 · 24 Jun 2011 · 7,041 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractComparing the Fertility of Soils under Khaya ivorensis Plantation and Regenerated Degraded Secondary ForestsYetti Heryati, Arifin Abdu, Mohd Noor Mahat et al.Problem statement: It is widely accepted that conversion of natural forest to other land use types leads to deterioration of soil fertility and increased soil compaction which consequently become degraded secondary forests. Degraded secondary forest or forestland is indicated by low in soil fertility and organic matter due to imbalance input and output from original vegetation. Forest plantation through planting … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 5 · 17 May 2011 · 8,513 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractLaboratory Scale of Liquid Coal Fuel Combustion Process and Exhaust Gas FormationKartika Kus Hendratna, Osami Nishida, Hirotsugu Fujita, Wataru HaranoProblem statement: Much research of coal has been already undertaken to ascertain the possibilities of coal being used as substitute for heavy fuel oil in the transportation sector. The effects of using coal as transportation fuel to the environment must also be considered. This study will review several aspects of the coal oil combustion process including combustion behavior, flame stability, … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 6, Issue 3 · 30 Jun 2010 · 6,766 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractIntelligent Sensor for Image Control Point of Eigenfaces for Face RecognitionMohamed Lamine Toure, Zou BeijiProblem statement: The sensor for image control point in Face Recognition (FR) is one of the most active research areas in computer vision and pattern recognition. Its practical application includes forensic identification, access control and human computer interface. The task of a FR system is to compare an input face image against a database containing a set of face samples … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 5 · 31 May 2010 · 6,978 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractSugar Beet Performance Affected by Uniformity of N FertigationH. Nouri, M. S.M. Amin, S. J. Razavi et al.In common with the majority of crop species, in sugar beet nutrition nitrogen is an important element due to its role in sucrose utilization and plant growth. Application of precision agriculture, in order to apply the right amount of input at the right time in the right area, is appropriate to decrease chemical use and increase plant growth. Problem statement: … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 3 · 31 Mar 2010 · 7,936 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractSpecies Composition, Ecological Parameters and Seasonal Changes of Planktonic Ciliates Population in Bukan Dam ReservoirA. Mohsenpour Azary, F. Mohebbi, A. Eimanifar et al.Problem Statement: Since there is no evidence to identify present species in the Bukan dam reservoir, therefore, this study was conducted to provide background for fisheries purposes. Approach: The abundance and species composition of ciliates were analyzed in the Bukan Dam reservoir (west Azerbaijan, Iran) from January to December 2007. Surface water samples were collected at monthly intervals at two … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2010 · 7,787 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractHardware Implementation of a Genetic Algorithm Based Canonical Singed Digit Multiplierless Fast Fourier Transform Processor for Multiband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Ultra Wideband ApplicationsMahmud Benhamid, Masuri B. OthmanProblem statement: Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology has attracted many researchers' attention due to its advantages and its great potential for future applications. The physical layer standard of Multi-band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) UWB system is defined by ECMA International.
