Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Qualitative Analysis of Independent Component Analysis Based Algorithms for the Removal of Artifacts from Electroencephalography SignalsBalaiah Paulchamy, Ilavennila, Jayabalan JayaProblem statement: Independent Component Analysis (ICA) based algorithms applied in the context to remove the artifacts from the EEG signals are evaluated with appropriate metrics and it compares and contrasts the performance of the different methods for such applications. The primary goal is to gain some insight into relative performance of the various methods. Approach: CA is a statistical and … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 8, Issue 3 · 6 Jan 2012 · 6,983 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractCharacterization of Substrate-Borne Vibrational Signals of Euschistus servus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae)Brittany Lampson, Young Han, Ahmad Khalilian et al.Problem Statement: Stink bugs were not major pests of cotton in the southeastern United States until cotton varieties containing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) transgenes came into common use, enabling reductions in insecticide applications against highly destructive lepidopteran pests. To maintain the benefits of reduced insecticide applications, it would be advantageous to detect and target isolated populations of stink bugs before they … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2010 · 8,272 accessesView PDFCite
Review ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractProject HARPRelly Victoria Petrescu, Raffaella Aversa, Bilal Akash et al.The HARP project, abbreviated from the High Altitude Project, was considered a joint project of the United States Department of Defense and Canada's Department of Defense, originally designed to study low-cost re-entry vehicles. Generally, such projects used rocket launchers to launch missiles, costly and often inefficient. The HARP project used a non-rocket space launch method based on a very large … …Journal of Aircraft and Spacecraft Technology, Vol. 1, Issue 4 · 7 Nov 2017 · 19,789 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractDevelopmental Design of Anaerobic Wetland System for Mining Waste Water TreatmentMuhammad Aqeel Ashraf, Mohd. Jamil Maah, Ismail YusoffProblem statement: Tin mining is one of the oldest industries in Malaysia that have started since 1820s. These mining activities have resulted in about 13,700 hectors of tin tailings throughout the peninsula. These tailings have created numerous environmental problems such as threat to natural reserves due to landscape changes, damage to natural drainage, pollution and destruction of natural habitats. Approach: … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 10 Oct 2011 · 7,509 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordA Distribution-Free Bayesian Approach for Indirect ComparisonsJohanna S. van Zyl, Jack D. TubbsThe objective of this paper is to consider an indirect comparison between treatments B and C when each have been compared directly to treatment A in separate studies. Problems of this type are common in Network Meta-Analysis (NMA). A commonly used method assumes that the underlying data, Y, are normally distributed and µ = E(Y) is the measure of clinical … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 15, Issue 1 · 3 Jul 2019 · 6,687 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordStudy of Properties of a Dispersant Used for Extracting Oil with High Gas-Oil RatioVladimir Verbitsky, Aleksey Dengaev, Oleg Zubkov, Dmitry KoshkinThe article presents the bench test results for a dispersant manufactured by Izhnefteplast Company, which specializes in batch production of unique submersible pumping equipment for oil extraction. The submersible equipment is unique in that the working elements of the pumping equipment are made of polymeric materials unlike the conventional concept of pumping machinery for oil production. The relevance of the … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 13, Issue 2 · 24 Feb 2016 · 7,293 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordA MIXTURE DROPOUT MECHANISM IN A LONGITUDINAL STUDY WITH TWO TIME POINTS: A METHADONE STUDYZohreh Toghrayee, Parvin Jalili, Heng Chin Low, Ardavan TaghvaOne of the most important issues that confront statisticians in longitudinal studies is dropouts. A variety of reasons may lead to withdrawal from a study and produce two different missingness mechanisms, namely, missing at random and non-ignorable dropouts. Nevertheless, none of these mechanisms is tenable in most studies. In addition, it may be that not all of dropouts are nonignorable. … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 10, Issue 3 · 26 Apr 2014 · 6,724 accessesView PDFCite
