Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA New Approach for 3D Range Image Segmentation using Gradient MethodDina A. Hafiz, Walaa M. Sheta, Sahar Bayoumi, Bayumy A.B. YoussefProblem statement: Segmentation of 3D range images is widely used in computer vision as an essential pre-processing step before the methods of high-level vision can be applied. Segmentation aims to study and recognize the features of range image such as 3D edges, connected surfaces and smooth regions. Approach: This study presents new improvements in segmentation of terrestrial 3D range images … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 4 Apr 2011 · 19,592 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractIris Recognition Without Iris NormalizationLenina Birgale, M. KokareProblem statement: In any real time biometric system processing speed and recognition time are crucial parameters. Reducing processing time involves many parameters like normalization, FAR, FRR, management of eyelid and eyelash occlusions, size of signature etc. Normalization consumes substantial amount of time of the system. This study contributes for improved iris recognition system with reduced processing time, False Acceptance Rate … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 9 · 30 Sep 2010 · 7,807 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractSelf-Generation ART-1 Neural Network with Gradient-Descent Method Aid for Latin Alphabet RecognitionMbaïtiga ZacharieProblem statement: In this study a self-generation ART-1 neural network that is an efficient algorithm that emulates the self-organizing pattern recognition developed to avoid the stability-plasticity dilemma in competitive networks learning, is presented for Latin alphabet recognition to use in a vision system for road sings recognition. Approach: The first step of our approach deals with the training process where … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 8 · 31 Aug 2008 · 6,566 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Three-Microphone Adaptive Noise Canceller for Minimizing Reverberation and Signal DistortionZayed M. RamadanThis paper introduces an adaptive noise canceller (ANC) to improve the system performance in the presence of signal leakage components. The proposed ANC consists of two adaptive filters and three microphones. The first adaptive filter cancels the signal leakage and the second filter cancels the noise. For best results, a least mean squares adaptive algorithm was also introduced and used … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2008 · 7,089 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Derivative-Free Optimization Method for Solving Classification ProblemParvaneh Shabanzadeh, Malik Abu Hassan, Wah June LeongProblem statement: The aim of data classification is to establish rules for the classification of some observations assuming that we have a database, which includes of at least two classes. There is a training set for each class. Those problems occur in a wide range of human activity. One of the most promising ways to data classification is based on … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 3 · 31 Mar 2010 · 7,505 accessesView PDF Cite
