Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractTakagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Gains Scheduled PI Controller for Enhancement of Power System StabilityLokman H. Hassan, M. Moghavvemi, Haider A.F. MohamedProblem statement: Power system oscillations affect system stability and may lead to failure if not properly controlled. Approach: A Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Gains Scheduled Proportional and Integral (FGPI) controller was proposed for a Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC)-based stabilizer to enhance the power system stability. Linguistic rules and fuzzy inference mechanism are utilized to tune the controller parameters on-line in different … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 1 · 31 Jan 2010 · 7,541 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractForecasting Peak Load Electricity Demand Using Statistics and Rule Based ApproachZ. Ismail, A. Yahya, K. A. MahpolProblem statement: Forecasting of electricity load demand is an essential activity and an important function in power system planning and development. It is a prerequisite to power system expansion planning as the world of electricity is dominated by substantial lead times between decision making and its implementation. The importance of demand forecasting needs to be emphasized at all level as … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 6, Issue 8 · 31 Aug 2009 · 7,936 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractImproving the Accuracy of Effort Estimation through Fuzzy Set Representation of SizeCh. Satyananda Reddy, KVSVN RajuProblem statement: The precision and reliability of the effort estimation is very important for the competitiveness of software companies. The uncertainty at the input level of the Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) yields uncertainty at the output, which leads to gross estimation error in the effort estimation. Fuzzy logic-based cost estimation models are more appropriate when vague and imprecise information was … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 6 · 30 Jun 2009 · 7,085 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA New Method for Accuracy Assessment of Sub-Pixel Classification ResultsH. Emami, B. MojaradiProblem statement: Classification accuracy assessment is the main stage of information extraction to evaluate the performance of a classifier. According to the output's classifiers (thematic map/fraction map), a properly strategy for accuracy assessment should be taken into consideration. Since pure pixels are used in traditional accuracy assessment of full pixel classifiers they are not suitable for assessment of sub-pixel classifiers. … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2009 · 7,475 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractFuzzy Reliability and Fuzzy Availability of the Serial Process in Butter-Oil Processing PlantKuldeep Kumar, Jai Singh, Pawan KumarProblem statement: The purpose of this study was to compute fuzzy reliability and fuzzy availability of the serial process in butter-oil processing plant for various choices of failure and repair rates of sub-system. This plant consists of eight sub-systems out of which two are supported by stand-by units with perfect switch over devices and considered that these two sub-systems never … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2009 · 8,014 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractDesign and Implementation of an Optimal Fuzzy Logic Controller Using Genetic AlgorithmS. Khan, S. F. Abdulazeez, L. W. Adetunji et al.All control systems suffer from problems related to undesirable overshoot, longer settling times and vibrations while going form one state to another state. Most of relevant techniques had been in the form of suggesting modification and improvement in the instrumentation or interfacing part of the control system and the results reported, remain suffering from shortcomings related to hardware parameter dependence … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 10 · 31 Oct 2008 · 8,049 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractDirect Model Reference Adaptive Controller Based-On Neural-Fuzzy Techniques for Nonlinear Dynamical SystemsHafizah Husain, Marzuki Khalid, Rubiyah YusofThis paper presents a direct neural-fuzzy-based Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC) for nonlinear dynamical systems with unknown parameters. The two-phase learning is implemented to perform structure identification and parameter estimation for the controller. In the first phase, similarity index-based fuzzy c-means clustering technique extracts the fuzzy rules in the premise part for the neural-fuzzy controller. This technique enables the recruitment … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 7 · 31 Jul 2008 · 6,939 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractThe Advantages of PID Fuzzy Controllers Over The Conventional TypesAbdullah I. Al-Odienat, Ayman A. Al-LawamaFuzzy logic controllers (FLC's) have the following advantages over the conventional controllers: they are cheaper to develop, they cover a wider range of operating conditions, and they are more readily customizable in natural language terms. A self-organizing fuzzy controller can automatically refine an initial approximate set of fuzzy rules. Application of PI-type fuzzy controller increases the quality factor. In this … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 6 · 30 Jun 2008 · 18,036 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractMemory Convergence and Optimization with Fuzzy PSO and ACSSubhash C. Pandey, Dr. P. MisraAssociative neural memories are models of biological phenomena that allow for the storage of pattern associations and the retrieval of the desired output pattern upon presentation of a possibly noisy or incomplete version of an input pattern. In this study, we introduce fuzzy swarm particle optimization technique for convergence of associative neural memories based on fuzzy set theory. A Fuzzy … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 2 · 28 Feb 2008 · 7,169 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractQuality Monitoring Using Principal Component Analysis and Fuzzy Logic Application in Continuous Casting ProcessSalah Bouhouche, Malek Lahreche, Abdelkrim Moussaoui, Jürgen BastThis paper deals with non linear system monitoring, based on a combined use of Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and fuzzy logic to process and quality monitoring. PCA coupled to fuzzy logic was used to estimate the fault or defect according to the dynamic changes in the process inputs-outputs characterized by T2 Hoteling and Squared Prediction Error (SPE).
