Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractContent Based Image Retrieval using Novel Gaussian Fuzzy Feed Forward-Neural NetworkC. Ramesh Babu Durai, V. DuraisamyProblem statement: With extensive digitization of images, diagrams and paintings, traditional keyword based search has been found to be inefficient for retrieval of the required data. Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system responds to image queries as input and relies on image content, using techniques from computer vision and image processing to interpret and understand it, while using techniques from information … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 7 · 28 Jun 2011 · 7,326 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractSpartan-3AN Field Programmable Gate Arrays Truncated Multipliers Delay StudyMohammed H. Al MijalliProblem statement: The image processing applications, such as MPEG video compression used in CT scan frames requires real time conditions and the algorithms should be verified and optimized before implementation which cannot be done with Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) because they are not reconfigurable and cost is very high. Approach: The FPGA is a viable technology that could be … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 6 · 13 Jun 2011 · 6,428 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractImproved Vertex Chain Code Based Mapping Algorithm for Curve Length EstimationHabibollah Haron, Amjad Rehman, L.A. Wulandhari, Tanzila SabaProblem statement: Image representation has always been an important and interesting topic in image processing and pattern recognition. However, curve tracing and its relative operations are the main bottleneck. Approach: This research presents the mapping algorithm that covers one of the vertex chain code cells, the rectangular-VCC cell. The mapping algorithm consists of a cell-representation algorithm that represents a thinned … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 5 · 7 May 2011 · 7,841 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Novel Approach to Medical Image SegmentationNandagopalan Shanmugam, Adiga B. Suryanarayana, Sudarshan TSB et al.Problem statement: Segmentation is a vital aspect of medical imaging. It aids in the visualization of medical data and diagnostics of various diseases. Ultrasound image segmentation, in particular echocardiographic image segmentation, is required to identify the regions of interest such as Left Ventricle (LV) and other cardiac cavities. Existing methods do not address the drawbacks of speed and quality of … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 5 · 7 May 2011 · 7,214 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractImproving the Performance of Backpropagation Neural Network Algorithm for Image Compression/Decompression SystemOmaima N.A. AL-AllafProblem statement: The problem inherent to any digital image is the large amount of bandwidth required for transmission or storage. This has driven the research area of image compression to develop algorithms that compress images to lower data rates with better quality. Artificial neural networks are becoming attractive in image processing where high computational performance and parallel architectures are required. … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 11 · 26 Oct 2010 · 8,370 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Novel Approach to Classify Noises in Images Using Artificial Neural NetworkT. Santhanam, S. RadhikaProblem statement: Noise identification is predominant in any digital image processing algorithms, which helps in identifying the filters to smooth the image for further processing. Approach: An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based approach was proposed for noise identification. The suggested technique involved seclusion of the noise samples and extracts their statistical features, which was then applied to a neural network … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 5 · 31 May 2010 · 7,190 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractHardware Implementation of Truncated Multipliers Using Spartan-3AN, Virtex-4 and Virtex-5 FPGA DevicesMuhammad H. RaisProblem statement: The development cost for Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) are high, algorithms should be verified and optimized before implementation. The Digital Signal Processing (DSP), image processing and multimedia requires extensive use of multiplication. The truncated multipliers can easily be implemented using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices.
