Review ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractProject HARPRelly Victoria Petrescu, Raffaella Aversa, Bilal Akash et al.The HARP project, abbreviated from the High Altitude Project, was considered a joint project of the United States Department of Defense and Canada's Department of Defense, originally designed to study low-cost re-entry vehicles. Generally, such projects used rocket launchers to launch missiles, costly and often inefficient. The HARP project used a non-rocket space launch method based on a very large … …Journal of Aircraft and Spacecraft Technology, Vol. 1, Issue 4 · 7 Nov 2017 · 19,789 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordAdvanced Manufacturing for Novel Materials in Industrial Design ApplicationsFrancesco Tamburrino, Antonio Apicella, Raffaella Aversa, Florian Ion Tiberiu PetrescuThe research presented starts with a focus on Smart Materials, or rather materials with properties that react to external stimuli (temperature, electric or magnetic field, pH or mechanical stress, for example) related to the environmental changes, modifying one or some of their own properties (mechanical, electrical, appearance, etc.). Afterward, one category of Smart Materials, Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs), has been … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 2 · 30 May 2018 · 8,535 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDesign of Field Programmable Gate Array Based Emulators for Motor Control ApplicationsAhmed Ben Achballah, Slim Ben Othman, Slim Ben SaoudProblem statement: Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) circuits play a significant role in major recent embedded process control designs. However, exploiting these platforms requires deep hardware conception skills and remains an important time consuming stage in a design flow. High Level Synthesis technique avoids this bottleneck and increases design productivity as witnessed by industry specialists. Approach: This study proposes to … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 9, Issue 8 · 12 Jun 2012 · 8,723 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDesign and Implementation of an Efficient Software Communications Architecture Core Framework for a Digital Signal Processors PlatformWael A. Murtada, Mohamed M. Zahra, Magdi Fikri et al.Problem statement: The Software Communications Architecture (SCA) was developed to improve software reuse and interoperability in Software Defined Radios (SDR). There had been performance concerns since its conception. Arguably, the majority of the problems and inefficiencies associated with the SCA can be attributed to the assumption of modular distributed platforms relying on General Purpose Processors (GPPs) to perform all signal … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 4, Issue 3 · 29 Nov 2011 · 7,495 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDesign and Simulation of Microelectromechanical System Capacitive Shunt SwitchesHaslina Jaafar, Othman Sidek, Azman Miskam, Shukri KorakkottilProblem statement: RF MEMS switch is one of MEMS area that creates devices that have great potential to improve the performance of communication circuits and systems and enables the realization of micro size mechanical switches embedded in electronics devices. The low voltage switches are necessary due to their compatibility of standard IC technology in RF application and microelectronics systems. In … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 4 · 31 Dec 2009 · 7,710 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordOperating System Support for Wireless Sensor NetworksAnt A. Fröhlich, Lucas F. WannerIn a wireless sensor network, several sensor nodes obtain local data and communicate among themselves in order to create a global vision of an object of study. The idea of a self-managed network of low-power, autonomous devices, that collects data from an environment and propagates information through a wireless link brought about several new challenges and requirements in application run-time … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2008 · 7,382 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDesign of a Merged DSP Microcontroller for Embedded Systems using Discrete Orthogonal TransformA. K. Rath, P. K. MeherIn this paper we have proposed the design of a DSP microcontroller where the processor load is significantly reduced by relegating the math-intensive DSP algorithm to dedicated transform computing modules. It is shown that the use of such transform modules will facilitate scalability, reusability and flexibility for implementation of wide varieties of DSP functionalities. Moreover, it would be possible to … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 2, Issue 5 · 31 Aug 2006 · 6,918 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordCodesign Methodology of Real-time Embedded Controllers for Electromechanical SystemsSlim Ben Saoud, Andreas Gerstlauer, Daniel D. GajskiUnder increasing time-to-market pressures in the electric drives industries, the development time of new algorithms and new control systems including their debugging time must be minimized. This requirement can be satisfied only by using a well-defined system-level design methodology and by reducing the migration time between the algorithm development language and the hardware specification language. In this study, we propose … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 9 · 30 Sep 2005 · 6,444 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordReconfigurable Hardware Architecture for Network Intrusion Detection SystemA. Kaleel Rahuman, G. AthishaIntrusion rule processing in reconfigurable hardware enables intrusion detection and prevention. The use of reconfigurable hardware for network security applications has great strides as Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices have provided larger and faster resources. This proposes architecture called “BV-TCAM” is presented, which is implemented for an FPGA-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS). The BV-TCAM architecture combines the Ternary … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 9, Issue 10 · 16 Aug 2012 · 6,981 accessesView PDFCite
