Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsAdaptive Linear Prediction Augmented Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average Based Prediction for VBR Video TrafficT. Raghuveera, P. V.S. Kumar, K. S. EaswarakumarProblem statement: Network traffic prediction plays a vital role in the optimal resource allocation and management in computer networks. This study introduces an ARIMA based model augmented by Adaptive Linear Prediction (ALP) for the real time prediction of VBR video traffic. The synergy of the two can successfully address the challenges in traffic prediction such as accuracy in prediction, resource … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 6 · 14 Jun 2011 · 7,013 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsA Novel Performance Metric for Building an Optimized ClassifierMohammad Hossin, Md Nasir Sulaiman, Aida Mustapha, Norwati MustaphaProblem statement: Typically, the accuracy metric is often applied for optimizing the heuristic or stochastic classification models. However, the use of accuracy metric might lead the searching process to the sub-optimal solutions due to its less discriminating values and it is also not robust to the changes of class distribution. Approach: To solve these detrimental effects, we propose a novel … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 4 Apr 2011 · 8,477 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsPattern Trees for Fault-Proneness Detection in Object-Oriented SoftwareRomana Ishrat, Rafat Parveen, Syed I. AhsonProblem statement: This study introduced an application of pattern tree based classification technique in the area of object-oriented software quality estimation. This application explored the fault prediction accuracy of pattern trees. Approach: Similarity measures and fuzzy aggregations employed in the pattern tree technique had been used to generate tree models for fault detection in software modules. Experiments had been performed … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 10 · 30 Jul 2010 · 6,949 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsPattern Classification: An Improvement Using Combination of VQ and PCA Based TechniquesAlok Sharma, Kuldip K. Paliwal, Godfrey C. OnwuboluThis study firstly presents a survey on basic classifiers namely Minimum Distance Classifier (MDC), Vector Quantization (VQ), Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Nearest Neighbor (NN) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN). Then Vector Quantized Principal Component Analysis (VQPCA) which is generally used for representation purposes is considered for performing classification tasks. Some classifiers achieve high classification accuracy but their data storage requirement and … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 10 · 31 Oct 2005 · 6,498 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsHigh Resolution Satellite Images to Reconstruct Recent Evolution of Domitian CoastlinePasquale Maglione, Claudio Parente, Andrea VallarioIn the last decades, combinations of natural and humanfactors have resulted in extensive morphological changes to our coastlines andin many cases have amplified erosion. In order to limit these changes and theirimpact on coastal zone, it is important toplan specific actions; for this purpose detailed cognizance of coastal zone isnecessary. Different and heterogeneous data such as historical and recent maps, remotely … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 12, Issue 7 · 28 Aug 2015 · 7,011 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsLAND USE LAND COVER DYNAMICS OF NILGIRIS DISTRICT, INDIA INFERRED FROM SATELLITE IMAGERIESP. Nalina, T. Meenambal, R. Sathyanarayan SridharLand use Land cover changes are critical components in managing natural resources especially in hilly region as they trigger the erosion of soil and thus making the zone highly vulnerable to landslides. The Nilgiris district of Tamilnadu state in India is the first biosphere in Western Ghats region with rare species of flora and fauna and often suffered by frequent … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 11, Issue 3 · 13 Jan 2014 · 7,857 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsFeature Subset Selection for Hot Method Prediction using Genetic Algorithm wrapped with Support Vector MachinesSandra Johnson, Valli ShanmugamProblem statement: All compilers have simple profiling-based heuristics to identify and predict program hot methods and also to make optimization decisions. The major challenge in the profile-based optimization is addressing the problem of overhead. The aim of this work is to perform feature subset selection using Genetic Algorithms (GA) to improve and refine the machine learnt static hot method predictive … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 5 · 7 May 2011 · 7,234 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the keywordsAn Independent Rough Set Approach Hybrid with Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm for Dimensionality ReductionNambiraj Suguna, Keppana Gowder ThanushkodiProblem statement: Dimensionality reduction is viewed as an important pre-processing step for pattern recognition and data mining. As the classical rough set model considers the entire attribute set as a whole to find the subset, comparing all possible combinations of sets of attributes is difficult. Approach: In this study, we have introduced an improved Rough Set-based Attribute Reduction (RSAR) namely … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 8, Issue 3 · 25 Mar 2011 · 8,334 accessesView PDFCite
