Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractImage Compression Algorithms Using Intensity Based Adaptive Quantization CodingSaad Al-Azawi, Said Boussakta, Alex YakovlevProblem statement: Low complexity image compression algorithms are necessary for modern portable devices such as mobile phones, wireless sensor networks and high constraint power consumption devices. In such applications low bit rate along with an acceptable image quality are an essential requirements. Approach: This study proposes low and moderate complexity algorithms for colour image compression. Two algorithms will be presented; … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 4, Issue 4 · 18 Jan 2012 · 8,501 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA New Cooperative Algorithm Based on PSO and K-Means for Data ClusteringMehdi Neshat, Shima Farshchian Yazdi, Daneyal Yazdani, Mehdi SargolzaeiProblem statement: Data clustering has been applied in multiple fields such as machine learning, data mining, wireless sensor networks and pattern recognition. One of the most famous clustering approaches is K-means which effectively has been used in many clustering problems, but this algorithm has some drawbacks such as local optimal convergence and sensitivity to initial points. Approach: Particle Swarm Optimization … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 8, Issue 2 · 19 Nov 2011 · 7,975 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAn Improved Location aided Cluster Based Routing Protocol with Intrusion Detection System in Mobile Ad Hoc NetworksS. Mangai, A. TamilarasiProblem statement: Routing and security are the main challenges for ad hoc networks due to dynamic topology as well as resource constraints. A designed protocol must provide scalable routing with better security. Lack of any central coordination and shared wireless medium makes them more vulnerable to attacks than wired networks. And also resource constraints such as limited energy and size … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 4 · 4 Apr 2011 · 7,107 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPerformance Analysis of IEEE 802.16d using Forward Error CorrectionVenkatesh Sekar, V. Palanisamy, K. BaskaranProblem statement: Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access is the broadband wireless technology for terrestrial broadcast services in Metropolitan Area Networks. This BWA technology is based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) technology and considers the radio frequency range up to 2-11 GHz and 10-66 GHz. The objective of this research work is the performance analysis of AWGN, SUI-1 and SUI-2 … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 7, Issue 3 · 9 Mar 2011 · 7,343 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractCollaborative Caching Architecture for Continuous Query in Mobile DatabaseMohamed Ahmed Elfaki, Hamidah Ibrahim, Ali Mamat, Mohamed OthmanProblem statement: Cooperative caching, which allows sharing and coordination of cached data among clients, is a potential technique to improve the data access performance and availability in mobile ad hoc networks. However, variable data sizes, frequent data updates, limited client resources, insufficient wireless bandwidth and client’s mobility make cache management faces many challenges. Approach: In this study, we propose a … …American Journal of Economics and Business Administration, Vol. 3, Issue 1 · 7 Jan 2011 · 8,882 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAn Efficient Causal Protocol with Forward Error Correction for Mobile Distributed SystemsEduardo Lopez Dominguez, Saul E. Pomares Hernandez, Gustavo Rodriguez Gomez et al.Problem statement: Causal ordering is used in Mobile Distributed Systems (MDS) to reduce the non-determinism induced by four main aspects: host mobility, asynchronous execution, unpredictable communication delays and unreliable communication channels. Some causal protocols have been proposed for MDS. All of these protocols in order to ensure the causal order in unreliable channels use the method of Automatic Repeat Request … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 7 · 31 Jul 2010 · 8,241 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractBoarding School Students Monitoring Systems (E-ID) Using Radio Frequency IdentificationHerdawatie Bt Abdul Kadir, Mohd Helmy Abd. Wahab, Siti Nurul Aqmariah Bt Mohd KanafiahProblem statement: Monitoring Boarding school student movement using the old-fashioned study system is inefficient and brings difficulty to the hostel management to check attendance manually. By using RFID technology, student movement is quick and easy. Approach: The application of RFID Matrix Card system as a boarding school students monitoring system (E-ID) were purposed to improve school management system and to … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 3 · 30 Sep 2009 · 9,122 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractCost-Effective Fabrication of Self-Made 1×12 Polymer Optical Fiber-Based Optical Splitters for Automotive ApplicationMohammad Syuhaimi Ab-Rahman, Hadi Guna, Mohd Hazwan Harun et al.Problem statement: Multimode fiber cables can conduct many light rays and can operate free of disruption and with a greater bandwidth than a wireless connection. However, due to a slight variation in the speed of the light rays through the multimode fiber, a signal transmitted by all of these rays becomes spread out. Consequently, the signals become broader and therefore … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2009 · 7,931 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPower Saving Mechanism in Clustered Ad-Hoc NetworksArwa Zabian, Ahmed IbrahimIn wireless Ad-Hoc networks, multihop transmission breaks the single hop path from a mobile node to another, into two or more hops, in a manner that the distances between transmitter and receiver are smaller than that in the direct transmission, which reduces the transmission power significantly. We have proposed the use of graph search algorithms to increase the power remaining … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 5 · 31 May 2008 · 7,125 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractMobility Management Technique for Real Time Traffic in 802.11 NetworksGurpal Singh, Ajay Pal Singh Atwal, B.S. SohisA practical mobility management technique aimed at reducing handoff latency to less than 10ms has been proposed and implemented in this paper. Handoff latency has been reduced by decoupling scanning from handoff execution process. This scheme has been implemented in the form of client side application with modifications to open source Madwifi new generation driver.
