Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Hybrid Retinal Image Registration Using Mutual InformationPradeepa Palraj, Ila VennilaImage registration has tremendous applications in medical industry both in diagnosis and therapy. But registering the retinal images is very difficult task because of the structural and illumination criteria. Normal registration algorithms are proved to be less effective and more complicated for such applications. This study aims at combining two methods of retinal image registration: Vessel based and non-vessel based … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 10, Issue 11 · 18 Sep 2013 · 6,694 accessesView PDFCite

However, the simplistic and user-centered design of this kind of systems cause the task of finding personally interesting users is becoming quite out of … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 9, Issue 8 · 5 Jul 2013 · 7,551 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractParallel Memetic Algorithm for VLSI Circuit Partitioning Problem using Graphical Processing UnitsP. Subbaraj, P. SivakumarProblem statement: Memetic Algorithm (MA) is a form of population-based hybrid Genetic Algorithm (GA) coupled with an individual learning procedure capable of performing local refinements. Here we used genetic algorithm to explore the search space and simulated annealing as a local search method to exploit the information in the search region for the optimization of VLSI netlist bi-Partitioning problem. However, … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 8, Issue 5 · 27 Feb 2012 · 7,094 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractVariable Neighborhood Simplex Search Methods for Global Optimization ModelsPongchanun LuangpaiboonProblem statement: Many optimization problems of practical interest are encountered in various fields of chemical, engineering and management sciences. They are computationally intractable. Therefore, a practical algorithm for solving such problems is to employ approximation algorithms that can find nearly optimums within a reasonable amount of computational time. Approach: In this study the hybrid methods combining the Variable Neighborhood Search … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 8, Issue 4 · 15 Feb 2012 · 6,517 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA New Cooperative Algorithm Based on PSO and K-Means for Data ClusteringMehdi Neshat, Shima Farshchian Yazdi, Daneyal Yazdani, Mehdi SargolzaeiProblem statement: Data clustering has been applied in multiple fields such as machine learning, data mining, wireless sensor networks and pattern recognition. One of the most famous clustering approaches is K-means which effectively has been used in many clustering problems, but this algorithm has some drawbacks such as local optimal convergence and sensitivity to initial points. Approach: Particle Swarm Optimization … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 8, Issue 2 · 19 Nov 2011 · 7,975 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractNew Scaled Sufficient Descent Conjugate Gradient Algorithm for Solving Unconstraint Optimization ProblemsAbbas Y. AL-Bayati, Rafiq S. MuhammadProblem statement: The scaled hybrid Conjugate Gradient (CG) algorithm which usually used for solving non-linear functions was presented and was compared with two standard well-Known NAG routines, yielding a new fast comparable algorithm. Approach: We proposed, a new hybrid technique based on the combination of two well-known scaled (CG) formulas for the quadratic model in unconstrained optimization using exact line … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 5 · 31 May 2010 · 7,053 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractHybridization of Neural Learning Algorithms Using Evolutionary and Discrete Gradient ApproachesRanadhir Ghosh, John Yearwood, Moumita Ghosh, Adil BagirovIn this study we investigated a hybrid model based on the Discrete Gradient method and an evolutionary strategy for determining the weights in a feed forward artificial neural network. Also we discuss different variants for hybrid models using the Discrete Gradient method and an evolutionary strategy for determining the weights in a feed forward artificial neural network. The Discrete Gradient … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 1, Issue 3 · 30 Sep 2005 · 6,590 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Variable Neighborhood Search Algorithm for Assigning Cells to Switches in Wireless NetworksMatthieu Andr, Gilles Pesant, Samuel PierreThe problem of assigning cells to switches in wireless networks consists of minimizing the total operating cost, that is, the cost of linking cells to switches and the cost of handover from one cell to another, by taking into account factors such as network topology, switch capacity and traffic load in the entire network. Such a problem is well known … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 1, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2005 · 6,753 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractDocument Clustering Based on Firefly AlgorithmAthraa Jasim Mohammed, Yuhanis Yusof, Husniza HusniDocument clustering is widely used in Information Retrieval however, existing clustering techniques suffer from local optima problem in determining the k number of clusters. Various efforts have been put to address such drawback and this includes the utilization of swarm-based algorithms such as particle swarm optimization and Ant Colony Optimization. This study explores the adaptation of another swarm algorithm which … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 11, Issue 3 · 26 Mar 2015 · 7,512 accessesView PDFCite
