Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractApplying Simulated Annealing For Optimal Operation of Multi-Reservoir SystemsF. Khodabakhshi, A. R. Ghirian, N. KhakzadThe need to optimize the operation of water reservoirs is an issue that is becoming increasingly a concern for water resources planners in developing countries. This issue particularly becomes more significant in large systems with multiple reservoirs where operation of one reservoir has an impact on the others. In other word, the set of reservoirs in these systems act like … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2009 · 7,626 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractEfficiency Comparison of Operational and Profitability: A Case of Hong Kong Commercial BanksCheng-Ru Wu, Hui-Yin Tsai, Ya-Mei WangProblem Statement: Traditional DEA models deal with measurements of relative efficiency of DMUs regarding multiple-inputs vs. multiple-outputs. One of the drawbacks of these models is the neglect of intermediate products or linking activities. The objectives of this study were: (i) This research was shown how to use DEA by two stages, with outputs from the first stage becoming inputs in … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 4, Issue 4 · 31 Dec 2008 · 7,488 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPerformance Analysis of Data Mining Tools Cumulating with a Proposed Data Mining MiddlewareL. E. Hen, S. P. LeeData mining has becoming increasingly popular in helping to reveal important knowledge from the organization's databases and has led to the emergence of a variety of data mining tools to help in decision making. Present study described a test bed to investigate five major data mining tools, namely IBM intelligent miner, SPSS Clementine, SAS enterprise miner, oracle data miner and … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 10 · 31 Oct 2008 · 6,604 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractEnvironmental Impact Assessment for Potential Continuous Processes for the Production of Carbon NanotubesAditi Singh, Helen H. Lou, Ralph W. Pike et al.As an emerging discipline, nanotechnology has the potential to improve environmental sustainability through its application in pollution prevention, treatment, remediation, etc. One challenging issue in the growth of nanotechnology is how to produce purified carbon nanotubes (CNT) in commercial quantities at affordable price and with low environmental impacts. A detailed assessment of such a manufacturing process from both economic and … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 4, Issue 5 · 31 Oct 2008 · 7,601 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractTransforming Spatio-Temporal Yield Maps to Classified Management Zone Maps for Efficient Management of Oil PalmAbdul Rahim Anuar, Kah Joh Goh, Tee Bee Heoh, Osumanu Haruna AhmedOne of the major challenges in oil palm plantations today is proper interpretation of yield maps for site-specific management and development of classified management zone maps for its efficient management. A study was conducted on an on-going fertilizer response trial in Sabah, Malaysia to examine the possibility of converting spatio-temporal yield maps of oil palm to classified management zone maps … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 10 · 31 Oct 2008 · 7,501 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Fuzzy Mathematical Programming Approach to DEA ModelsA. Azadeh, S.F. Ghaderi, Z. Javaheri, M. SaberiEvaluating the performance of activities or organizations by traditional Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as efficiency frontier analysis models requires crisp input/output data. However, in real-world problems inputs and outputs are often imprecise. This study develops DEA models using imprecise data represented by fuzzy sets. An important outcome of assessing relative efficiencies within a group of Decision Making Units (DMUs) in … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 5, Issue 10 · 31 Oct 2008 · 7,232 accessesView PDFCite
