Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractLoad Balancing of Distributed Systems Based on Multiple Ant Colonies OptimizationAl-Dahoud Ali, Mohamed A. Belal, Moh’d Belal Al-ZoubiProblem statement: Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) provides a meta-heuristic optimization tool and collective intelligence model to several applications such as routing and load balancing. A lot of work found in the literature on using ACO in load balancing. However, as far as our knowledge, there was no work relating load balancing in distributed systems with ACO. Approach: In this study, … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 7, Issue 3 · 31 Mar 2010 · 7,209 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractVision-Based Obstacle Avoidance of Mobile Robot Using Quantized Spatial ModelSalaheddin Odeh, Rasha Faqeh, Laila Abu Eid, Nihal ShamasnehProblem statement: Problem of moving a robot through unknown environment has attracted much attention over past two decades. Such problems have several difficulties and complexities that are unobserved, besides the ambiguity of how this can be achieved since a robot may encounter obstacles of all forms that must be bypassed in an intelligent manner. This research had been aimed to … …American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 4 · 31 Dec 2009 · 8,053 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAnt Colony Optimization for Solving Solid Waste Collection Scheduling ProblemsZ. Ismail, S. L. LohProblem statement: Southern Waste Management environment (SWM environment) is a company responsible for the collection and disposal of solid waste for the city of Johor Bahru, a city with over one million populations. The company is implementing an integrated solid waste management system where it involved in the optimization of resources to ensure the effectiveness of its services. Formulating this … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 5, Issue 3 · 30 Sep 2009 · 8,015 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractReducing Broadcast Overhead Using Clustering Based Broadcast Mechanism in Mobile Ad Hoc NetworkN. Karthikeyan, V. Palanisamy, K. DuraiswamyProblem statement: Network wide broadcasting is an important function in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET), which attempts to deliver packets from a source node to all other nodes in the network. Broadcasting is often very useful for route discovery, naming, addressing and helping multicast operations in all kinds of networks. For designing broadcast protocols for ad hoc networks, one of … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 8 · 31 Aug 2009 · 7,031 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractProgressive Content-Sensitive Data Retrieval in Sensor NetworksBo Yang, Manohar MareboyanaProblem statement: For a sensor network comprising autonomous and self-organizing data sources, efficient similarity-based search for semantic-rich resources (such as video data) has been considered as a challenging task due to the lack of infrastructures and the multiple limitations (such as band-width, storage and energy). While the past research discussed much on routing protocols for sensor networks, few works have … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 7 · 31 Jul 2009 · 6,845 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractA Channel Adaptive Energy Efficient and Fair Scheduling Media Access Control Protocol for Mobile AdHoc NetworksP. Priakanth, P. ThangarajProblem statement: A major drawback in the existing protocols in dealing with energy management issues is that the time varying nature of the wireless channels among the ad hoc nodes is ignored. Approach: This study proposed a channel adaptive energy efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol, for efficient packets scheduling and queuing in an ad hoc network, with time varying … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 1 · 31 Jan 2009 · 7,556 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractDynamic Traffic Light Sequence Algorithm Using RFIDKhalid A.S. Al-Khateeb, Jaiz A.Y. Johari, Wajdi F. Al-KhateebProblem statement: Traffic congestion and tidal flow management were recognized as major problems in modern urban areas, which have caused much frustration and loss of man hours. Approach: In order to solve the problem an intelligent RFID traffic control has been developed. It has circumvented or avoided the problems that usually arise with systems such as those, which use image … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 7 · 31 Jul 2008 · 21,773 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAn Approach for Detecting Attacks in Mobile Adhoc NetworksV. Madhu Viswanatham, A. A. ChariThe security of data becomes more important with the increased use of commercial applications over wireless network environments. We presented an approach to handle various attacks for wireless networks. There were several problems of security in wireless networks due to intruders and different type of attacks such as Node Isolation, Route Disruption and Resource Consumption. There were better methods and … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 3 · 31 Mar 2008 · 6,924 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPerformance Analysis of Clustering Protocols in Mobile Ad hoc NetworksSharmila J. Francis, Elijah B. RajsinghNetwork clustering is an important technique widely used in efficient MANETs network management, hierarchical routing protocol design, network modeling, Quality of Service, etc. Recently many researchers are focusing on clustering which is one of the fundamental problems in mobile ad hoc networks.
