Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAdvances in Menaquinone-7 Production by Bacillus subtilis Natto: Fed-Batch Glycerol AdditionAydin Berenjian, Raja Mahanama, Andrea Talbot et al.Menaquinone-7 was produced by fermentation mainly using Bacillus subtilis species. Due to the low concentration of menaquinone-7 in fermentation processes and the associated expense of recovering the menaquinone-7, it was desirable to improve the fermentation concentration. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of fed-batch glycerol addition in the production of menaquinone-7 during the fermentation of Bacillus … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 8, Issue 2 · 22 Jun 2012 · 10,539 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractAntibiotic Resistance in Co-Culture Biofilm of Listeria monocytogenes J0161Prem Saran Tirumalai, Soam PrakashProblem statement: Do naturally group-living bacteria express genes the same way as they do in lab grown pure cultures? An intriguing question. Listeria monocytogenes, a dreaded pathogen has been and continues to be a subject of study with reference to gene expressions. However, all studies concerning the gene expression of L. monocytogenes have been done on pure culture states. Our … …Current Research in Microbiology, Vol. 3, Issue 1 · 29 Mar 2012 · 10,216 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractCytotoxic and Antimicrobial Potential of Actinomycete Species Saccharopolyspora salina VITSDK4 Isolated from the Bay of Bengal Coast of IndiaK. Suthindhiran, K. KannabiranProblem statement: Although the diversity of marine Actinobacteria have been studied and biotechnologically exploited throughout the world, the studies on marine actinobacteria in Indian peninsula are largely unexplored. Of 9 maritime states in India, only 4 states have been extensively studied for the diversity of actinobacteria. Further, the studies on bioactive actinomycetes from saline soil are very scanty. Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractControl of Anthracnose Caused by Colletotrichum musae on Curcuma alismatifolia Gagnep. Using Antagonistic Bacillus spp.Supuk Mahadtanapuk, Mondhon Sanguansermsri, Robert W. Cutler et al.Over 400 bacterial strains, isolated from leaf surfaces of Curcuma alismatifolia Gagnep. and hot springs in the Chiang Mai province of northern Thailand, were screened in vitro for antagonistic activity against Colletotrichum musae, an anthracnose fungus. Three isolates provided greater than 75% growth inhibition of the fungus in vitro and were identified as Bacillus licheniformis, B. amyloliquefaciens and B. subtilis. … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2007 · 9,005 accessesView PDFCite
