Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordSolving Protein Folding Problem using Elitism-Based Compact Genetic AlgorithmAmr Badr, Ibtehal M. Aref, Basma M. Hussien, Yosr EmanProteins are vital components of living cells. A number of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cystic fibrosis and Mad Cow diseases are shown to result from misfunctioning of proteins. Problem statement: Protein folding problem is the process of predicting the optimal 3D molecular structure of a protein, or tertiary structure, which is an indication of its proper function. Approach: An enhancement … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 4, Issue 7 · 31 Jul 2008 · 6,861 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordA Simple Robust Control Chart Based on MADMoustafa Omar Ahmed Abu-ShawieshControl charts are one of the most powerful tools used to detect aberrant behavior in industrial processes. The Shewhart S-control chart is one of the most widely used statistical process control techniques developed to control the process variability based on the fundamental assumption that the underlying distribution of the quality characteristic is normal. When the underlying normality assumption is not … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 4, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2008 · 14,264 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordConstruction of Control Charts Using Fuzzy Multinomial QualityV. Amirzadeh, M. Mashinchi, M.A. YaghoobiControl charts are the simplest type of on-line statistical process control techniques. One of the basic control charts is P-chart. In classical P-charts, each item classifies as either "nonconforming" or "conforming" to the specification with respect to the quality characteristic. In practice, one may classify each item in more than two categories such as "bad", "medium", "good", and "excellent". Based … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 4, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2008 · 7,535 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordConstrained Single Period Stochastic Uniform Inventory Model With Continuous Distributions of Demand and Varying Holding CostHala A. Fergany, M. E. El-SaadaniThis paper derives the single period stochastic inventory model with continuous distributions of demand and the holding unit cost is a function of the purchased (ordered) quantity. The objective is to find the optimal purchased quantity which minimizes the expected total cost for the period under a restriction on the expected varying holding cost when the demand during the period … …Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, Vol. 2, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2006 · 7,159 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordBinding Interaction between Bovine Serum Albumin and Chicoric Acid, a Food Functional ComponentHaifang Xiao, Quancai Sun, Xuebo Liu, Yuanda SongFuorescence, FTIR and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy were used to explore the binding between chicoric acid and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA). Binding characteristics at various levels of temperature have been calculated. The results indicated that chicoric acid statically quenched the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA. The binding constants (Ka) were 4.14×105 L mol-1 at 273K and 4.29×106 L mol-1 at 298 k. … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 12, Issue 3 · 19 Sep 2016 · 7,556 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDoes Over or Under Dispersion in Inverse Binomial Data Suggest Anything? A Case in Point is the Waiting Time for Both Heart-Lung TransplantsRamalingam ShanmugamThe model is an abstraction of the reality. The selection of the usual inverse binomial as an underlying model for the number of patients waiting in months for heart and lung transplant is questionable because the data exhibit not the required balance between the dispersion and its functional equivalent in terms of the mean but rather an over or under … …Current Research in Biostatistics, Vol. 3, Issue 2 · 29 Jan 2014 · 6,891 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDevelopment of a "Programmable Logic Controller Circuitry" For Optimal Power Distribution in a Manufacturing IndustriesK. SelvarajProblem statement: In industries the powder demand/consumption is fixed by the power supply agency. However, at times, the demand/Consumption may exceed the fixed level and will result in, the industry paying heavy penalties to the supply agency. In most of the large and medium scale industries, controlling of power consumption is done by monitoring the powder demand indicator unit activated … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 6, Issue 3 · 31 Mar 2010 · 7,279 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordDynamic Reconfiguration of IP Domain Middleware Stacks to Support Multicast Multimedia Distribution in a Heterogeneous EnvironmentKevin Curran, Gerard ParrSeamless connectivity to multiple wireless networks independently of a fixed point is becoming increasingly important for mobile devices however wireless networks differ in bandwidth, size and access costs each requiring protocol functions to enable devices to communicate efficiently. In addition, due to the divergence of users and applications, traditional stacks are frequently enriched with additional functionality such as transport protocol … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 1, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2005 · 6,786 accessesView PDFCite
