Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordAnalysis of Heat Transport in a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel CellE. Afshari, S.A. JazayeriIn this study a two-phases, single-domain and non-isothermal model of a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been studied to investigate thermal management effects on fuel cell performance. A set of governing equations, conservation of mass, momentum, species, energy and charge for gas diffusion layers, catalyst layers and the membrane regions are considered. These equations are solved numerically in … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 6, Issue 1 · 31 Jan 2009 · 7,342 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordA Contemporary Analysis of Sexual Trends and Transmitted Infections Among Outpatient at Two Public Hospitals in JamaicaTazhmoye Crawford, Michael T. Gardner, Donovan A. McGrowderResearch aimed at investigating sexual behavior and assessing intervention to improve sexual and reproductive health among young adults in Jamaica has increased in recent decades. This study was carried out to assess both positive and negative sexual outcomes e.g. sexual activity and sexual satisfaction related to sexual behavior such as multiple partners and the use or non-use of condoms among … …American Journal of Infectious Diseases, Vol. 4, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2008 · 7,281 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordMicroarray Analysis of Human Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Responses to Bacterial LipopolysaccharideJoe Minta James, J. Yun, Sandy Der, Shikha RanaAccumulating evidence suggest a causal role of bacterial and viral infections in atherogenesis. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has been shown to stimulate resting vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC) with the production of inflammatory cytokines and modulation of quiescent cells to the proliferative and synthetic phenotype. To comprehensively identify biologically important genes associated with LPS-induced SMC phenotype modulation, we compared the transcriptomes … …American Journal of Immunology, Vol. 3, Issue 2 · 31 Dec 2007 · 6,994 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordAn Improved Implementation of Brain Tumor Detection Using Segmentation Based on Neuro Fuzzy TechniqueS. Murugavalli, V. RajamaniImplementation of a neuro-fuzzy segmentation process of the MRI data is presented in this study to detect various tissues like white matter, gray matter, csf and tumor. The advantage of hierarchical self organizing map and fuzzy c means algorithms are used to classify the image layer by layer. The lowest level weight vector is achieved by the abstraction level. We … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 3, Issue 11 · 30 Nov 2007 · 7,107 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordAn Analysis of Death Using the National Longitudinal Mortality StudyMark GiusUsing an expansive survey of death that includes not only socioeconomic and demographic information on a deceased person, but also his or her cause of death, the present study attempts to examine the determinants of death. The present study uses the National Longitudinal Mortality Study, Public Use File (NMLS), which contains data on 370,930 individuals over the age of 24, … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 3, Issue 3 · 30 Sep 2007 · 7,875 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordThe Performance of Maximum Likelihood, Spectral Angle Mapper, Neural Network and Decision Tree Classifiers in Hyperspectral Image AnalysisHelmi Zulhaidi Mohd Shafri, Affendi Suhaili, Shattri MansorSeveral classification algorithms for pattern recognition had been tested in the mapping of tropical forest cover using airborne hyperspectral data. Results from the use of Maximum Likelihood (ML), Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Decision Tree (DT) classifiers were compared and evaluated. It was found that ML performed the best followed by ANN, DT and SAM with … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 3, Issue 6 · 30 Jun 2007 · 142,381 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordScenarios Analysis of Tourism DestinationsAnastasios Michailidis, Fotis ChatzitheodoridisThis study describes a multi-criteria decision-making framework employed to evaluate and rank three tourism destinations, located in the northern and central Greece. Additionally, innovatory elements are the incorporation of differing levels of socioeconomic data (destination image and destination personality) within the decision framework and the direct determination of the PROMETHEE II preference thresholds. The developed methodology provides a user-friendly approach, … …Journal of Social Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2006 · 7,490 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordA Simulation-Based Comparison of Multimedia Traffic Prioritization Schemes for High-Performance Input-Queued Packet SwitchesSalman A. AlQahtaniThis study investigates the problem of enabling Quality of Service (QoS) of multimedia traffic at the input port of high-performance input-queued packet switches using a simulation-based evaluation. We focus on the possibility of assuring QoS of multimedia traffic in such switches by implementing traffic prioritization at the input port where each input-queue has been modified to provide a separate buffer … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 2, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2006 · 7,074 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessAll words, across the recordA New Incremental Updating Algorithm for Mining Sequential PatternsJia-Dong Ren, Xiao-Lei ZhouThis study discusses how to maintain discovered sequential patterns when some information is deleted from a sequence database. A new algorithm, called MA_D (Maintenance Algorithm when Deleting some information), is presented in order to deal with the maintenance of sequential patterns mining resulted from the updating of database and the algorithm makes full use of the information obtained from previous … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 2, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2006 · 6,613 accessesView PDFCite
