Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractTowards Growing Bario Rice on Lowland Soils: A Preliminary Nitrogen and Potassium Fertilization TrialMuyang Tawie Sulok Kevin, Osumanu Haruna Ahmed, Wan Yahaya Wan Asrina et al.A pot study was carried with the following objectives: (i) To investigate N and K uptake of Bario rice on Bekenu series (Tipik Tualemkuts), and (ii) To investigate N and K use efficiency of Bario rice on Bekenu series. Treatments evaluated were: (i) Bario rice under fertilized condition (T1), and (ii) Bario rice under unfertilized condition (T0). The experiment was … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 2, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2007 · 7,774 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPreparation and Properties of Copolyanhydrides Based on 2-Hexadecylsuccinic Acid and Sebacic AcidYousef Hamdan, Xiangmei Jiang, Kaixun Huang, Kaichao YuPoly(2-hexadecylsuccinic acid-sebacic acid) (P(HSA-SA)) copolymers have been prepared by melt polycondensation. The copolymers were characterized by FT-IR, 1HNMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). In vitro studies showed that all our prepared copolymers are degradable in phosphate buffer at 37°C. The release profiles of hydrophilic model drug, ciprofloxcin hydrochloride, from the copolymers, follow … …American Journal of Applied Sciences, Vol. 4, Issue 3 · 31 Mar 2007 · 7,427 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractExperimental Study of Parameters Influencing the Purity of Potassium Sulfate Fertilizer Produced from Jordanian Raw MaterialsMousa GougazehThe general objective of the present investigation was to make a contribution towards improving the purity of the produced potassium sulfate from (KCl, Arab Potash Company-Dead Sea) and (H2SO4, Jordanian Phosphate Company). The process parameters influencing the contamination of the poisoning chlorine within the product were experimentally investigated. The experiments were performed in a small-scale batch reactor equipped with a … …American Journal of Environmental Sciences, Vol. 1, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2005 · 7,042 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractImatinib Mesylate Inhibits Glucose Uptake in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Cells by Downregulation of the Glucose Transporters Recruitment to the Plasma MembraneHans Prenen, Cristiana Stefan, Bart Landuyt et al.Imatinib mesylate, the inhibitor of the KIT protein tyrosine kinase that is constitutively activated in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs), has been established as the first highly effective drug in the treatment of patients with advanced GISTs. Recent studies suggest that changes in the glucose metabolism could be an additional mechanism of the anti-proliferative action of imatinib. The aim of this … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 1, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2005 · 7,245 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractBiosensor Based on Xanthine Oxidase for Monitoring Hypoxanthine in Fish MeatHelena S. Nakatani, Luciane V. dos Santos, Cristiano P. Pelegrine et al.An amperometric enzyme electrode for the detection of hypoxanthine in fish meat is described. The hypoxanthine sensor was prepared from xanthine oxidase immobilized by covalent binding with glutaraldehyde and bovine serum albumin on a nafion-coated platinum disc electrode. The responses for hypoxanthine were obtained in 0.1 mol L-1 phosphate buffer (pH 7.0), at potential of 600mV vs Ag/AgCl. This biosensor … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 1, Issue 2 · 30 Jun 2005 · 8,597 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractProduction of (E) 10-Hydroxy-8-octadecenoic Acid with Lyophilized Microbial CellsA. Bódalo, J. Bastida, M.F. Máximo et al.Lyophilized non-proliferating microbial cells of Pseudomonas sp. 42A2 showed their ability to catalyze the bioconversion of oleic acid into (E)-10-hydroxy-8-octadecenoic acid (MHOD) and (E)- 7,10-dihydroxy-8-octadecenoic acid (DHOD). The reaction conditions were optimized in order to produce the maximum amount of MHOD. At 30°C and using phosphate buffer (0.1 M and pH=8), an initial substrate concentration of 10 mg mL-1 and … …American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vol. 1, Issue 1 · 31 Mar 2005 · 7,162 accessesView PDFCite
Review ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractPlant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR): A Novel Agent for Sustainable Food ProductionOdoh Chuks Kenneth, Eze Chibuzor Nwadibe, Akpi Uchenna Kalu, Unah Victor UnahPlant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) involves the use of large array of soil bacteria to improve yield, plant growth and sustainable food production. As free living and symbiotic rhizobacteria, PGPR exert its role by colonizing extracellular and/or intracellular rhizoenvironment in the quest for carbon source. In the past decades, focus has been on developing a biosafety agro base approach void … …American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Vol. 14, Issue 1 · 19 Apr 2018 · 14,183 accessesView PDFCite
Research ArticleOpen accessIn the abstractEffects of Intraarticular Tramadol Administration on Biochemical and Cytological Properties of Equine Synovial Fluid: Comparison with LidocaineAlireza Raayat Jahromi, Abutorab Tabatabaei Naeini, Saeed NazifiProblem statement: Diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopic surgeries are procedures performed quite frequently in equine practice; and are considered to cause some degree of postoperative pain. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the equine synovial fluid biochemical and cytological changes following intra-articular administration of tramadol as a potential analgesic. Approach: Six adult healthy donkeys were selected after clinical … …American Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Vol. 6, Issue 1 · 14 Jun 2011 · 7,514 accessesView PDFCite
