Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesA Light-Weight Service Discovery Protocol for Ad Hoc NetworksRanwa Al Mallah, Alejandro QuinteroProblem statement: In mobile ad hoc networks devices do not rely on a fixed infrastructure and thus have to be self-organizing. This gives rise to various challenges to network applications. Existing service discovery protocols fall short of accommodating the complexities of the ad-hoc environment. However, the performance of distributed service discovery architectures that rely on a virtual backbone for locating … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2009 · 7,336 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesMPLS Based Architecture for Mobility and End-to-End QoS Support in Fourth Generation Mobile NetworksAlejandro Quintero, Eduardo Del FrutosProblem statement: Next-generation mobile networks are evolving towards network architectures relying entirely on IP. Approach: These networks had to be scalable in order to support future IP traffic, namely new multimedia services and real time applications, while providing an effective mobility management mechanism to cope with increasingly mobile users. In addition to global connectivity, next-generation mobile networks will have to … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 5, Issue 4 · 30 Apr 2009 · 7,683 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesProximity Aware Routing in Ad Hoc NetworksValerie Alandzi, Alejandro QuinteroMost of the existing routing protocols for ad hoc networks are designed to scale in networks of a few hundred nodes. They rely on state concerning all links of the network or links on the route between a source and a destination. This may result in poor scaling properties in larger mobile networks or when node mobility is high. Using … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 3, Issue 7 · 31 Jul 2007 · 6,733 accessesView PDF Cite

Research ArticleOpen accessIn the author namesRedundancy Schemes for High Availability Computer ClustersChristian K. Bassek, Samuel Pierre, Alejandro QuinteroThe primary goal of computer clusters is to improve computing performances by taking advantage of the parallelism they intrinsically provide. Moreover, their use of redundant hardware components enables them to offer high availability services. In this paper, we present an analytical model for analyzing redundancy schemes and their impact on the cluster’s overall performance. Furthermore, several cluster redundancy techniques are … …Journal of Computer Science, Vol. 2, Issue 1 · 31 Jan 2006 · 7,229 accessesView PDF Cite
